Kamloops Cancellation Turns OneBC Town Hall Into a Public-Facility Fairness Test

June 6, 2026 · iVoteOneBC research desk

Dallas Brodie’s Kamloops town hall is now a sharper test of democratic fairness: when an elected MLA’s event becomes controversial, public-facility rules should be transparent, safety-focused, and viewpoint-neutral.

What changed

CFJC Today reported on June 5 that Dallas Brodie’s planned OneBC Kamloops town hall at Sandman Centre was cancelled after a venue dispute. The report followed earlier local coverage that connected the booking to the former Kamloops Kia Lounge at Sandman Centre and described added safety or security-related costs as the key point of conflict.

OneBC’s official Kamloops event page still lists the Backbone of BC Tour stop for Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., with the location shown as Kamloops, B.C. and the venue marked TBA. That distinction matters: the verified update is a venue cancellation / location watch, not a sourced claim here that the entire tour stop is cancelled.

The fair-access principle

The principled supporter position is not complicated. If real security needs exist, explain them. If extra costs are required, show the policy and apply it evenly. If public buildings are open for political meetings, they should not become unavailable because a speaker is unpopular with activists or officials.

That is why Dallas Brodie’s direct-town-hall model matters. She is willing to take the questions in person, in communities outside the Victoria bubble, on issues like affordability, UNDRIP, private and Crown property, and government accountability. British Columbians deserve more of that, not less.

What supporters should watch now

  • Kamloops: OneBC’s official page still lists June 7, 2026, 6 P.M.–8 P.M.; venue TBA as of the June 6 morning check.
  • Prince George: Wednesday, June 10, 2026, 6 P.M.–8 P.M.; OneBC page lists venue TBA.
  • Kelowna: Sunday, June 14, 2026, 6 P.M.–8 P.M.; OneBC page lists venue TBA.

No attendance, membership, or alliance numbers are claimed here. The next clean milestone will be an official OneBC/Dallas Brodie venue update or another public statement from the facility/city side.
