Kamloops Venue Dispute Shows Why Fair Access Matters

June 4, 2026 · iVoteOneBC research desk

Dallas Brodie’s Kamloops stop has become more than a town hall listing. It is now a fair-process test: can a public facility handle political controversy by applying rules clearly, evenly, and without viewpoint discrimination?

What is verified

OneBC’s official Kamloops event page still lists the June 7 Backbone of BC Tour stop as open admission by RSVP, with the venue marked TBA and the time listed as 6 P.M. to 8 P.M.

Public reporting on June 3 identified Sandman Centre in Kamloops as the facility connected to the booking. Castanet reported that the City of Kamloops said the booking had to be honoured despite pressure to cancel, with the city pointing to legal advice that a public facility cannot be denied to an organizer because of the organizer’s views.

Radio NL then reported that OneBC executive director Guneet Singh said late additional safety/security fees made the original Sandman Centre/Kia Lounge booking untenable. Radio NL said it reviewed contract material showing a $583.32 base rental and a later $7,729.42 Schedule B charge connected to operational security and safety costs, with a Tuesday, June 2 deadline that OneBC did not meet.

The honest takeaway is narrow but important: there is now a real venue dispute, not a verified cancellation of the tour stop. OneBC’s official page remains the RSVP route, and supporters should rely on OneBC’s public channels for the final location.

Why supporters should care

Dallas Brodie’s strongest lane is direct public accountability: take difficult questions, answer citizens face to face, and force government systems to explain their rules in daylight. If extra security costs are needed, the public deserves a transparent explanation. If public facilities are available for political events, the same standard should apply to unpopular speakers and popular ones alike.

That is not special treatment for OneBC. It is basic democratic fairness. The fair supporter position is calm, sourced, and principled: publish the rules, apply them evenly, protect safety, and let citizens hear from elected representatives directly.
